PC6IOTA  2005

From Wednesday July 27th untill Wednesday August 3rd 2005, JanJaap PG7V and Jack PD2JVE have been active from Texel Island, IOTA EU-038.

We used the special callsign PC6IOTA. For prefix hunters, the prefix PC6 is a rare one, the 4-letter suffix is not unique for The Netherlands, but such a suffix has been issued only a few times before.

We have been active in the RSGB IOTA contest, multi-operator, but only with one transceiver. In this contest we made 1197 QSO's. All bands were working fine, except 80 meters, there was a lot of QRN, so it was almost impossible to work on this band.

Special thanks to Rene en Inge Vis from Delta Holiday Appartments for their great hospitality. if you have plans to visit Texel please check their website: www.delta-rv.nl

The following equipment was used:

Transceivers:    2x Yeasu FT-920 for HF and 6 m
2x Yeasu FT-847 for 6 and 2 m and 70 cm

Antennas: Cushcraft R7 vertical for 10 - 40 m
Inverted-Vee, 2x 40 mtr for all bands
3 el. beam for 6 m
16 el. Tonna beam for 2 m
19 el. Tonna beam for 70 cm

A few pictures from our station:

This is our shack. Behind the shack is the Cushcraft R7,
the higher mast is used for the 2m beam and inverted Vee.
The 6 meter beam should have been placed higher.
At the end of the operation we worked several stations on 6 meters using the Cushcraft R7!

On Saturday, a few hours before the contest we changed the antenna situation, the Cushcraft R7 is now on top of the mast next to the shack and gives a much better result now.
